“The Flood of 1927 in Rutland: Edited by Jacob Sherman, is issued as a monthly calendar for 2008 ,with photographs of the historic flood for each month.
These photos are accompanied by an eyewitness account of the flood in Rutland and Proctor based on a letter written to “her dear fried Esmerelda” and signed “Alameda”. This letter appeared in The Vermonter the predecessor of Vermont Life in 1928.
In addition to the fully descriptive retelling of the event, each of the photographs illustrates the enormous damage done by the flood throughout the two towns, month by
month.
